It was a bloody weekend as no fewer than 20 people were killed on Saturday in a multiple suicide bomb attacks by two young women at a wedding venue in Tashan Mararaba, and another location in same Gwoza town, Borno State.
The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) Dr. Barkindo Saidu said death toll has risen to 18, while 19 others were confirmed to have sustained various degrees of injuries.
Recall that Gwoza was one of the local government areas previously declared a caliphate after it was captured by the Boko Haram terrorists before they were degraded by the military in the LGA.
A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, said that the bomber, who was later identified as a young lady in her early twenties, had detonated her explosive device where people gathered, leading to destructions.
Dr. Saidu, said he witnessed the suicide attacks at about exactly 3pm on Saturday, the first bomb blast in Gwoza occurred which was detonated by the female suicide bomber in the midst of a wedding ceremony.

The BOSEMA Director further said some minutes later, another blast occurred around General Hospital in the same town and more than 30 persons were affected with various levels of injuries and instant deaths resulting from the multiple suicide bombs attacks.

“I am now coordinating for chopper this night. I have mobilised emergency drugs to complement the shortage of drugs in Gwoza. I am in Gwoza myself.
“The degree of injuries ranges from abdominal ruptures, scull fractures, and limb fractures. Also, I received a report that there is a suspected suicide bomber in Pulka,” he added.
Speaking with reporters in Maiduguri the state capital, the Borno State Commissioner of Police (CP), Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attack, “it was carried out by a female suicide bomber” he said.
However, reliable sources hinted that over 25 dead bodies may have been recovered from three locations before the military shut down the LGA headquarters with a curfew at dusk, which kept residents indoors from late evenings to avert further suicide attacks in the area.
