Buhari’s Govt. Dumps Southern and Eastern Roads, Approves $1.9B For Railway From Kano-Katsina To Niger Republic.
The Mohammadu Buhari’s Govt. has dumped the Southern and Eastern roads, and approved the sum of $1,959,744,723.71 for the construction of a modern railway line that will connect Nigeria to its Northern neighbour, the Republic of Niger.
Meanwhile, many Federal roads, more especially in the South-South and South-East, are more of death-traps and daily subjects their user hellish experiences.
Railways in the Southern and Eastern regions are nothing to boast of and the Akanu Ibiam “Int’l” Airport is still an eyesore.
The Second Niger bridge is still an unfulfillable Buhari’s campaign promise, yet the Federal Govt. under his watch is building/expanding the rail line from Kano to Niger with funds borrowed on behalf of “Nigerians”.
The funding and commencement of this massive project was approved on Wednesday 23rd September 2020 at the State House during the Federal Executive Council meeting virtually chaired by the president.

The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi had a chat with State House correspondents after the meeting, to brief the nation of the approval to develop the rail line.
He said the amount involved in developing this railway network that will run through “Kano-Dutse-Katsina-Jibia and to Maradi in Niger Republic is inclusive of Value Added Tax”
The minister added that apart from the approval given to commence the Nigeria-Niger Republic rail line, that the Federal Executive Council also aprroved “contract worth N3.049 bilion for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of one railway crane for the purposes of clearing rail tracks in situations of accidents”
