2019Debate: This is how Vice Presidential candidates performed during televised debate

Nigeria’s Vice Presidential Debate, Fri. 14 Dec. 2018.
On Friday, December 14, 2018, the Vice Presidential candidates of the PDP, APC, ACPN, ANN and YPP starred in the first of several televised debates ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The debate participants were Umma Getso (YPP), Ganiyu Galadima (ACPN), Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya (ANN), Peter Obi (PDP) and Yemi Osinbajo (APC).
Venue of the debate was the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in the nation’s capital city of Abuja.
This is how the 5 participants fared during the debate put together by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) and the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG).
1. Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya (ANN)
She started nervously, but grew in some confidence as the debate wore on.
Not much can be said of where Abdullahi-Iya stands on some of the issues raised during the debate because she offered little by way of policy standpoints and proposals.
However, she chipped in a few strong points while countering some of the policies of the Buhari administration being touted by Osinbajo.
Abdullahi-Iya’s best point has to be when she said local governments should be able to control their own resources and pay a tax to the center.
She had a good closing remark only because she read from a prepared speech. It was the one moment where she sounded like ANN presidential candidate, Fela Durotoye.
Otherwise, she stuttered, mangled and forgot her lines most of the time.
A good debate prep would put her in the mood for subsequent outings. Surely, one to watch out for in the future.
2. Ganiyu Galadima (ACPN)
He had a night to forget.
Galadima certainly wasn’t ready for this debate and wouldn’t have been ready if an extra 5 hours were added to the session.
He started nervously, picked up nervously and ended nervously. He was also all over the place, didn’t deliver a solid point worthy of recall and fumbled his lines.
Perhaps, his only stellar moment of the debate was when he reminded everyone that the head of the ticket, Oby Ezekwesili, is perhaps one of the best economic minds around.
Overall, Galadima did his party and ticket little favours here.
3. Peter Obi (PDP)
He started like a house on fire, reeling out statistics and proffering solutions to a host of economic challenges plaguing Nigeria at the moment. He certainly had Osinbajo in his crosshairs.
However, a host of Obi’s numbers didn’t add up following some fact checking.
The PDP candidate announced that Nigeria has 2 million cars plying the roads. The registered number of vehicles in Nigeria, according to the nation’s statistics bureau, is 11 million.
Obi also said Nigeria’s trade with Africa stood at 9 percent. The correct figure is 15 percent. According to the Afriexim Bank, intra-Africa trade is around 15 percent. In 2016, intra-African exports made up 18 percent of total Nigerian exports according to the Brookings Institution.
Obi’s claims that 87 million Nigerians are unemployed was also a stat pulled from outer space. 34 million Nigerians are unemployed according to latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). 87 million is about the total number of Nigeria’s labour force.
Nigeria’s foreign direct investment for 2015 wasn’t $21bn, like Obi told everyone. Nor did it fall to $12bn in 2017.
According to NBS capital importation reports, Nigeria’s total imported capital stood at $9.6 billion in 2015.
Some of Obi’s claims on Nigeria slipping down the global competitive index in 2018, were not correct as well. The World Economic Forum report states that Nigeria rose on the index by 10 places in 2018.
However, Obi floored Vice President Osinbajo on the petroleum subsidy debate. His argument that Nigeria is “subsidizing inefficiency” is right on the money when you consider that the subsidy regime on petrol hasn’t significantly impacted on purchasing power or improved the economy in any way, shape or form.
Nigeria is better off finding ways to refine its crude oil locally and fixing the economy instead of paying trillions in subsidy annually.
4. Umma Getso (YPP)
She started with plenty of butterflies in her tummy. By mid-debate however, those butterflies were largely perching on the doors of the hallway.
Getso spoke relatively well on fiscal restructuring, the YPP’s plan to stimulate innovation through a venture capital fund, while touting Kingsley Moghalu’s economic credentials whenever she had the opportunity to do so. She was deferring to him most of the time, a pointer that they both sing from the same hymn sheet.
She was flat on other policy discussions however, preferring instead to repeat her bare-bone points.
On the night’s evidence, however, Getso is a plus for the Moghalu ticket, warts and all. Considering her age (She’s only 37) and inexperience on the political scene, we should cut her a bit of slack perhaps.
5. Yemi Osinbajo (APC)
He was on the defensive throughout as expected. Brilliant on the delivery and elocution–a forte for him.
However, like Obi, Osinbajo made some wild, exaggerated claims. When he said Nigeria currently produces a chunk of the rice it consumes, not a few Nigerians were left raising puzzled eyebrows. Millions of Nigerians would tell you for free that locally produced rice is almost never on the market shelves when they go shopping.
“We are producing 90 percent of the rice that we consume and we are importing only 2 percent of what we used to import”, Osinbajo said without wincing. This statement is definitely not supported by current realities.
It is also not true that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was practically abandoned under Goodluck Jonathan. There were a few attempts to fix the road in the preceding dispensation, although not enough to get any real work done.
Osinbajo’s attempts to defend the petrol subsidy regime as some kind of panacea to economic improvement, was also weak and scattergun.
But the vice president delivered some sucker punches of his own when he called out Obi for talking about how Nigeria was destroyed when it was in fact the opposition PDP that supervised some of that destruction; and when he flattened Obi who posited that fighting corruption doesn’t really matter.
“You can’t leave your shop and be chasing criminals”, Obi said to applause from what was largely an unruly audience.
“If you allow criminals to steal everything, there will be no shop”, Osinbajo clapped-back to more applause.
Touche
Good outing overall from Osinbajo as you would expect from a born talker.
The presidential debate will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

“What did Katt Williams say? It’s up for all of them.
“You all have had your fun. You have had your way. You have had your time in the sun. But now all of this is about to come to a screeching halt. You all are about to see many celebrities suddenly become ill. Retiring prematurely. Moving to another country. No longer being interested in acting. They are going to be dropped from endorsement deals.
“They will be let go by sports teams. You will no longer see them at award shows. You will no longer see them featured on songs or commercials. Clothing brands will ditch them. They will be removed from their charity foundations. You will see a lot of things. Because this is it people. This is what you waited for. We fought for this by sharing all the info we could. And our work is paying off.
“The victims will be vindicated. We will no longer be shunned by society. They will be forced to confront all the things they denied in order to stay in the good graces of people who couldn’t care less about “The Truth”. All the trolls are about to eat crow. Do not pay them any mind at this point. They have nothing to lose. So they will attempt to downplay the significance of this.

“These are blackpillers who no longer see no value in anything. They have given themselves a shot in the arm and that fluid is coursing through their veins and they themselves will have to go through a major detox that we are no longer equipped to help them with. It’s going to take God himself to come down here and awaken them. This is no our concern.
“The curtain is falling, not with a gentle whisper but with the thunderous crash of an era ending. The lights that once shone on these figures, illuminating their every move, are now flickering out, one by one, in a spectacle of dramatic dimness. This isn’t merely the end of a chapter; it’s the apocalyptic conclusion of a saga where fame was both the sword and the shield, now rusted and discarded.
“As the tide turns, those who once danced in the spotlight will find themselves in shadows, not by choice but by the inexorable force of revelation. Their names, once synonymous with glamour and success, will become whispers of caution, tales told in the dim corners where once their glory was celebrated. The red carpets, once rolled out in their honor, will be retracted, leaving behind only the echo of their steps.
“This shift is not just a change in the public’s affection; it’s a seismic cultural realignment. The idols of yesteryear, who seemed untouchable, are now facing the reality of their own human fragility. The public, once their adoring crowd, now becomes their jury, delivering a verdict that resonates with the weight of truth over the dazzle of stardom.
“In this new dawn, the narratives will rewrite themselves. The stories of courage will not be about overcoming adversity in the spotlight but about facing the aftermath in the cold light of day. Those who once thrived on the applause will learn the silence of solitude, not by choice but by necessity. The world watches, not with voyeuristic glee, but with a sober understanding that even the stars must sometimes fall to earth.

Puff Daddy, is currently in jail as he faces charges of racketeering and sex trafficking.

American Rapper and Hip-hop Mogul, P. Diddy, Sean Diddy Combs, Puff Daddy, is currently in jail as he faces charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Sky News reported that P. Diddy was allegedly indicted on the following:
- Combs is alleged to have “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” dating back to at least 2008.
- The 54-year-old is accused of leveraging his employees, resources, and industry influence to establish a “criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in, and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labour, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice”.
- He is accused of coercing female victims and male sex workers into participating in drug-fueled sexual acts, referred to as “Freak Offs,” according to the legal document.
- Sky News said that the document mentions “Freak Offs” 16 times, describing them as elaborate, staged sexual performances that Combs orchestrated, directed, and often recorded, while also engaging in the acts.
- Prosecutors claim that victims were administered controlled substances during events that sometimes lasted for days, keeping them “obedient and compliant.” Combs allegedly subjected them to “physical, emotional, and verbal abuse” to compel their participation.
- The indictment further alleges that Combs and his business associates “engaged in acts of violence, threats of harm, both physical and reputational and verbal abuse.” These acts reportedly included kidnapping and arson when individuals who witnessed the alleged abuse challenged his authority or reputation.

List Of Other Lawsuits Against Puffy, Puffy Daddy, P. Diddy, Sean Diddy
April Lampros
CNN reported that Lampros’ suit claims: “What Mr. Combs displayed as kind gestures quickly manifested into an aggressive, coercive, and abusive relationship based on sex.”
Joi Dickerson-Neal
Also in November last year, Joi Dickerson-Neal filed a lawsuit claiming Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1991 while she was a college student.
She also alleged that Combs secretly recorded the assault.
This lawsuit was filed under New York’s temporary window allowing older sexual assault claims that would typically be beyond the statute of limitations.
Additional Sexual Assault Allegations
The music mogul faced another lawsuit in December 2023, where an unnamed woman accused him of drugging and gang-raping her in 2003 when she was 17 years old.
Diddy’s Son Christian Accused of Sexual Assault
In April, a lawsuit naming “Diddy” and his son Christian Combs alleged that Christian sexually assaulted a woman working on a chartered boat in 2022.
The plaintiff’s attorney said: “Like father, like son. It gives us no joy or pleasure in filing this suit against Christian Combs who has clearly adopted his father’s pattern and practice of depravity,” according to NBC. Sean and Christian Combs’ lawyers have denied the claim.
Crystal McKinney
In May, former model Crystal McKinney filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court accusing Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting her at his New York recording studio in 2003.
Forbes makes a list of lawsuits against the American rap mogul, Puff Daddy:
Forbes reported that on September 24, Thalia Graves filed a federal lawsuit in New York on Tuesday claiming she was offered a glass of wine by Combs and Sherman in 2001, when she was 25, that made her “lightheaded, dizzy and physically weak” before she lost consciousness and was raped by the two men her while her hands were tied behind her back.
September 24, Combs is sharing a unit with disgraced former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to The New York Times, as the former crypto mogul serves out a 25-year sentence in prison for counts of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering linked to a scheme that lost former FTX customers, lenders and investors several billion dollars.
September 17, A memo filed with New York judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky accuses Combs and co-conspirators of setting fire to an unnamed person’s car using a Moltov cocktail in an accusation that matches one brought by Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, who said in a lawsuit filed last year that Combs blew up a car owned by rapper Kid Cudi.
September 17, A federal court in Manhattan unseals charges against Combs for racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, alleging he “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfill sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.”
September 16, Combs is arrested in Manhattan after being indicted by a grand jury.
May 29, Federal investigators may bring Combs’ accusers to testify before a grand jury soon and most plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits against the rapper have already been interviewed by investigators, sources told CNN—a move that could indicate prosecutors are looking to charge somebody, though no charges have been filed yet.
February 26, In February, producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones sues the rapper in New York in February and alleges he was “subjected to unwanted advances by associates of Diddy at his direction” and was forced to engage in relations with sex workers he hired. In a set of widely covered allegations, Jones says in the lawsuit that Combs regularly hosted “sex-trafficking parties” with underage women and illegal drugs, and implies record label executives who looked the other way financially benefited from access to celebrities and dignitaries like the British royal Prince Harry, who is not accused of any wrongdoing or of attending parties himself (Combs’ attorney tells the Los Angeles Times the suit includes “reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction”).
December 6, Combs is hit with another sexual assault suit in December, accusing the rapper of drugging and participating in a gang rape of the unnamed woman in 2003, when the accuser was 17 years old.
November 23, An anonymous plaintiff accuses Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall of raping her and a friend in 1990 or 1991 after meeting at an MCA Records event in New York—a suit that, like the Dickerson-Neal complaint, was filed shortly before the expiration of a New York law temporarily allowing lawsuits for older assault allegations that would ordinarily be past the statute of limitations.
Cassie Ventura was former girlfriend of P. Diddy who accused him of abuse and rape.
November 17, Ventura’s $30 million suit is settled the day after it was filed for an undisclosed amount, with Ventura telling CNN she chose to “resolve this matter amicably,” while Combs’ attorney says the settlement was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing” and didn’t change his denial of the allegations.
November 16, Cassie Ventura files the suit against Combs, alleging he raped her in 2018 and subjected her to a years-long abusive relationship that included physical abuse and his assertion of “complete control” over her personal and professional life.

Nigeria Is Not Meant To Exist, A Collateral Damage And British Royal Niger Corporation -Burna Boy
“We were not even supposed to be Nigerians in the first place. We are the Royal Niger company. So, we are basically a company for the British to take resources and go for Britain.”

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, a Nigerian singer, songwriter, record producer and celebrity who is popularly known with the stage name as Burna Boy, has described Nigeria as A Royal Niger Corporation of the British.
During a recent interview with Tidal, the artist described Nigeria as a Royal Niger corporation for the British, which was never meant to exist as a country.
In a trending video on social media and internet, Burna Boy underlined that Nigerians have been suffering for decades as a result of poor government and other external influences.
Sharing his thoughts about how Nigeria was created, the celebrity noted that the country was never meant to exist and because of how it was created, Nigerians are collateral damage.

His insightful perspective highlighted how Nigerians were never meant to be Nigerians. He pointed out that Nigerians were originally the Royal Niger Corporation/Company, and Nigeria as a nation was formed out of a business deal.
The complexities of Nigeria’s history, identity and the boundaries Nigerians live within were drawn for profit, not for the Nigerian people to thrive, succeed or reach their full potential as a people.
In his words: “We were not even supposed to be Nigerians in the first place. We are the Royal Niger company. So, we are basically a company for the British to take resources and go for Britain.
“Then somewhere along the line, the company decided to buy the whole place and amalgamate it.
Bianca opens up on what Biafra warlord, Ojukwu told her about Nigeria’s survival
“So at the end of the day, the people that sell the place and the people that buy the place to them are the winners. While the rest of the people are collateral damage,” he stated.
Recall that the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has repeatedly explained the need for Biafra to exit Nigeria after over a century of the January 14 1914 amalgamation.
For this and other associated cause, the then President Muhamadu Buhari led-federal arrested him upon his arrival in Lagos from Britain.
Kanu was incarcerated in Kuje maximum prison for 18 months and was later released on stringent bail conditions.
The IPOB leader was preparing for his upcoming court date before the Nigerian army illegally invaded his family home at Isi Ama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abịa State, in search of Kanu, leading to the death of not less than 28 people.
This invasion was declared illegal and unconstitutional by three federal courts of competent jurisdiction including the supreme court of Nigeria.
Kanu was forced to flee for his life amidst the military invasion of his home, and was reported missing for almost one year, before his appearance at the wailing wall at Jerusalem.
He was subsequently abducted by Nigeria’s Secret Security Services (SSS/DSS) in collaboration with the Kenyan Government under Former President Uhuru Kanyetta at Jumor Kanyetta International Airport Nairobi, Kenya and was forcibly brought back to Nigeria in a private jet around 27 June, 2021.
Until date, Kanu has remained incarcerated at the DSS headquarters Abuja for three years and still counting, in flagrant violations his fundamental human rights, flouting of several court orders and judgements in his favour, including the United Nations’ order to release his immediately and pay him adequate compensations for the violations of his fundamental human rights.
