VP Yemi Osinbajo flags off 2019 Pres. campaign at Nyanya, Abuja

Published

on

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday evening hit the 2019 presidential campaign trail with visits to suburbs of Nyanya and Karu areas in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Surging crowds greeted him there as people struggled to catch a glimpse or shake hands with himb as he moved in the densely populated suburbs of the Nigerian capital.

Osinbajo’s first port of call was at the Nyanya residence of Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed where he told the crowd that he came to greet them and solicit their votes for him and President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 polls.

“We are here to greet you and we want to say to you that President Buhari is determined that, if you vote for him for this second term, we will all go higher; we will all do better.

“Our country can feed all of us and we can find work for everybody because we have the money. I want you all, everybody who is here, please, make sure that you vote for President Buhari in 2019.

“As you know, he’s a truthful man, he’s an honest man. Our money will be used for us; it will be used to build our roads. Our money will be used properly. It will not be stolen. So let us vote for the man who will use our money well”, he told them.

He took the same message to Karu where he addressed people at the community square, telling them that “we are going higher higher; we are going higher higher and I am very happy to be here with you

“I want you to believe that President Muhammadu Buhari is going to do even better. We have to create more jobs for all these young people; we have to give our market women credit so that they can do more business; our young people money so that they can do more business.

“We came to meet you where you are; to hear from you. This country will become better and better; by the grace of God. All of us who are here will prosper in this Nigeria.

“The only thing is that the government must not steal money and if the government does not steal the money, there will be enough for all us.

“That is why President Muhammadu Buhari is the right president for us. I will appeal that you will vote him in the proper time.”

Head of one of the compounds, Chief Habaku Jimiko, told the Vice-President that the leaders of the community were concerned about the welfare of the people.

He said the people of the area were willing to support government programmes and called for the economic empowerment of the people.

5 Major Global Events in 2025 and their Financial Ripple Effects—Tracking Times

Introduction:

2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year — geopolitically, economically, and spiritually. With elections, conflicts, innovations, and moral debates dominating the headlines, the global economy is not left untouched. But beyond the news, what does this mean for your wallet, your values, and your faith?

Whether you’re a business leader, faith-driven entrepreneur, or simply trying to make wise financial decisions, these five events offer lessons. They offer opportunities you can’t ignore.

1. U.S. Presidential Election (Nov 2025)

Why It Matters:
As the world’s largest economy, leadership changes in the United States significantly impact:

  • Stock markets (especially tech, energy, and defense)
  • Dollar value and inflation
  • Global aid, trade, and policy shifts

Faith & Finance Perspective:

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.” This is found in Proverbs 29:2.
The ripple effect of governance isn’t just felt in politics — it touches moral values, justice, and market behavior.

Actionable Takeaways:

  • Diversify your investments ahead of election volatility.
  • Watch for sector-specific spikes (like green energy or defense).
  • Pray and prepare for leadership that values justice, truth, and stewardship.

Israel–Iran War Escalates as Nnamdi Kanu’s Verdict Nears: What’s at Stake?—Tracking Times

2. Ongoing Russia-Ukraine & Israel-Gaza-Iran Conflicts

Why It Matters:
These wars continue to:

  • Drive up global oil and grain prices
  • Trigger supply chain delays
  • Increase global uncertainty, pushing investors toward safe havens like gold and crypto

Christian Insight:
Jesus spoke of wars and rumors of wars (Matthew 24:6) for a reason. His intention was not to scare us. Instead, He wanted to help us live with wisdom and alertness.

Financial Strategy Tip:

  • Secure your emergency fund (6 months least)
  • Invest in commodities and inflation-protected assets
  • Consider ethical investing — support peace-building companies

3. AI Regulation and Automation Shifts

Why It Matters:
AI regulation will affect everything from:

  • Data privacy laws
  • Unemployment in traditional sectors
  • Startup funding and business models

Case Study:
In 2024, Italy temporarily banned ChatGPT, sparking a global debate. In 2025, similar regulations either will boost innovation or stifle jobs.

Faith Angle:
God gave us creativity and dominion, not domination (Genesis 1:28). AI must serve humanity — not replace dignity or purpose.

Pro Tips:

  • Upskill in AI-friendly areas (content, ethics, data strategy)
  • Explore side hustles that can’t be automated
  • Faith-based tech groups are emerging — join or invest wisely

🌱 4. Green Energy Boom and Climate Disasters

Why It Matters:

  • Record funding for renewable energy is happening across Africa and Asia
  • Climate disasters (floods, droughts) are displacing millions
  • Governments are tightening carbon policies and subsidizing green tech

Finance Angle:
Solar, electric vehicles (EV), and carbon credit markets are booming — invest early.

Christian Lens:

“The earth is the Lord’s…” – Psalm 24:1
Caring for the planet is not just trendy — it’s biblical stewardship.

Quick Guide:

  • Invest in sustainable ETFs and clean tech startups
  • Use disaster insurance if you’re in vulnerable zones
  • Reduce business waste — it helps you and the planet

5. Global Youth Unemployment and Migration

Why It Matters:

  • Youth unemployment in parts of Africa and Asia is over 30%
  • Many are migrating for survival, not opportunity
  • Financial instability leads to mental health and crime spikes

Balanced Insight:
Governments must focus on skills over degrees. Churches and communities can offer mentorship and micro-capital.

Christian Call:

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers. This is from Hebrews 13:2.
Migration is a challenge — but also a kingdom opportunity.

Take Action:

  • Support or start faith-based vocational training
  • Offer your time to mentor unemployed youth
  • Share financial content that educates the undeserved

Summary:

Here’s a recap of the 5 key global events and their ripple effects:

Global EventFinancial ImpactSpiritual Insight

Wars in Ukraine & GazaCommodity prices, inflationStay alert and prepared
AI Regulation & AutomationJob losses, new skills demandAI must serve, not enslave

💡 Final Word:

2025 isn’t just another year. It’s a crossroads — between fear and faith, risk and reward, economy and eternity.

Benue Killings and Nigeria’s Flashpoints: Root Causes, National Impact, and Path to Peace—Tracking Times

This tragic event is not isolated. It is part of a broader security crisis spanning the Middle Belt, Northwest, and Southeast regions. From ethnic land disputes to religious tension and weak governance, Nigeria faces a perfect storm of conflict.

Introduction

In June 2025, Nigeria was plunged into mourning again. Over 150 people were massacred in Yelewata, Guma LGA of Benue State.

The attackers were suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen. They stormed the village in the dead of night. Homes were burned, farmers were killed, and hundreds were displaced.

This tragic event is not isolated. It is part of a broader security crisis spanning the Middle Belt, Northwest, and Southeast regions. From ethnic land disputes to religious tension and weak governance, Nigeria faces a perfect storm of conflict.

This blog post takes a deep dive into:

  • What caused the Benue killings
  • Where other flashpoints exist
  • How Nigeria can break the cycle of violence

_____________

What Happened in Benue?

Yelewata Massacre – June 13–14, 2025

  • Casualties: 150+ villagers dead
  • Property Loss: Over 200 homes burned, livestock stolen
  • Displacement: 3,000+ residents fled to IDP camps
  • Response: Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the attack, calling for urgent military intervention

Eyewitness reports indicate the attackers used sophisticated weapons, suggesting coordination and funding beyond rural militias. Security forces reportedly arrived several hours late, as is often the case in Nigeria’s underserved communities.

NorthwestZamfara, Kaduna, SokotoBanditry, kidnappings
SoutheastImo, Ebonyi, AnambraSeparatist violence (IPOB)
SouthwestOyo, Ogun bordersEthnic tensions, robbery
NortheastBorno, Yobe, AdamawaBoko Haram insurgency

What Are Root Causes of the Violence?

1. Land & Resource Competition

At the heart of most rural violence in Nigeria lies scarcity of land and water. As desertification pushes herders southward, they come into conflict with sedentary farmers. Without structured grazing policies, clashes become deadly.

2. Ethnic & Religious Division

  • Fulani herdsmen (mostly Muslim) vs. Tiv and Idoma farmers (mostly Christian)
  • Long-standing distrust dating back to colonial border policies and post-Biafran era

3. Weak Security Architecture

Nigeria’s police-to-population ratio is ~1:450—far below the UN standard. Poor funding, corruption, and politicized military deployments leave rural communities defenceless.

4. Proliferation of Arms

Arms trafficking from Libya and the Sahel has flooded Nigeria with illegal weapons. Bandits and militias now wield AK-47s and explosives, outgunning local security.

5. Government Inaction

Successive governments have condemned the violence without meaningful intervention. Probes are set up but rarely lead to prosecution or compensation for victims.

Human & Economic Impact

  • Death Toll (2010–2025): Over 60,000 killed in farmer-herder related violence
  • Agricultural Collapse: Benue, once the “Food Basket of Nigeria,” now suffers severe food shortages
  • Displacement: Over 2.5 million Nigerians live in internal displacement camps
  • Economic Losses: Estimated ₦3.8 trillion (\$4.7 billion USD) in property and crop damages

“We are losing both lives and livelihoods. If this continues, there will be nothing left for the next generation.”Father Solomon Ujah, Makurdi Catholic Diocese

Solutions and Peace-Building Roadmap

1. Community Policing & Surveillance

Deploy community-based vigilante units trained in conflict de-escalation. Use drones and early warning systems in high-risk zones like Guma and Agatu.

2. State-Controlled Grazing Reserves

Implement structured ranching policies. States like Ekiti and Nasarawa have shown success by:

  • Establishing fenced grazing zones
  • Providing veterinary care and water points
  • Enforcing anti-open grazing laws

3. Inter-Faith Peace Dialogues

Use Christian and Muslim clerics, traditional rulers, and NGOs to host reconciliation forums. Projects like the Peace Initiative Network (PIN) in Kaduna have shown measurable results.

4. Federal Reforms

  • Pass the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) into law
  • Increase police recruitment and military oversight
  • Set up special rural courts to handle land disputes swiftly

5. Arms Control & Border Surveillance

Launch buyback programs and prosecute black-market arms dealers. Collaborate with Niger, Chad, and Cameroon to seal arms smuggling routes.

Case Study: Plateau State Peace Accord (2024)

In Jos North, a peace accord between Fulani and Berom communities was brokered through a UN-backed initiative. The result:

  • 12 months without attacks
  • Reopened markets and schools
  • Peace clubs in secondary schools

Benue and other states can replicate this model by prioritizing dialogue over deployment.

🎯 Final Thoughts

The crisis in Benue and other Nigerian regions is not just about herders or farmers. It is about injustice, inequality, and institutional failure. Sustainable peace can only come through holistic solutions: justice, education, economic empowerment, and grassroots collaboration.

If Nigeria is serious about unity, it must protect all its citizens. This includes not just those in Abuja or Lagos, but also in Yelewata, Agatu, Zamfara, and Southern Kaduna.

Israel–Iran War Escalates as Nnamdi Kanu's Verdict Nears—Tracking Times

Introduction

As the world watches escalating violence between Israel and Iran, another story unfolds quietly in Africa. It is the prolonged trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). These seemingly unrelated developments reflect global tensions between national sovereignty, justice, and power. This update explores the latest events in the Middle East and Nigeria — and the possible global ripple effects.

️Latest on the Iran–Israel Conflict

What Happened?

On June 21–22, 2025, Israeli and U.S. forces jointly struck several nuclear research facilities in Iran, including:

  • Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility
  • Natanz Enrichment Plant
  • Fordow Deep Underground Site

These precision airstrikes, confirmed by President Donald Trump, were aimed at “obliterating Iran’s nuclear capacity.” Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) described the operation as the most critical since the Osirak raid of 1981.

Strategic Impacts

  • Iran’s nuclear program was crippled. Experts estimate Iran’s enrichment capabilities were set back by at least 3–5 years.
  • Global oil prices jumped above \$100/barrel, straining already fragile economies.
  • Iran retaliated by firing 40+ missiles at Israeli targets. While most were intercepted, several hit civilian zones in Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Israeli Strike on Isfahan Nuclear Site: Strategic Impact & Iran’s Leadership in Crisis–Tracking Times

Ayatollah Khamenei’s Whereabouts

Amid the strikes, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly moved to a military bunker in northern Tehran. Speculation about his health and safety intensified.

Potential successors include:

  • Mojtaba Khamenei (his son) – seen as a hardliner with IRGC backing.
  • Sadeq Larijani – former judiciary chief with strong conservative credentials.
  • Ebrahim Raisi – current president and cleric, though wounded in recent drone strikes.

Any instability or death in Iran’s leadership could create a succession crisis, leading to civil unrest and greater external aggression.

Legal Turning Point in Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial

While bombs fall in the Middle East, Nigerian activists and observers are focused on a historic legal moment.

⚖️ The Legal Journey

  • Trial Start: 2015
  • Disruption: September 2017 — Operation Python Dance II resulted in 28 deaths at Kanu’s home. He disappeared and reappeared in Jerusalem in 2018.
  • Arrest: June 2021 — Kanu was illegally renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria without extradition due process.

The Case Today

Kanu’s defense team took action after years of detention and prosecution. They filed a No-Case Submission in the Federal High Court of Abuja on June 19, 2025. This means:

  • The defense argues that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case.
  • The government’s last masked witness (PW5 DDD) failed to provide evidence of treason or terrorism.
  • The judge, Justice James Omotosho, has adjourned the ruling to July 18, 2025.

Legal Basis (Section 286 of Nigerian Constitution):
If the prosecution fails to establish material facts, the court will dismiss the case. The defendant is not required to open a defense.

🌍 Shared Themes: War, Justice, and Leadership

  1. Both Israel and Nigeria are navigating national crises.
One faces an external nuclear threat; the other, internal dissent rooted in civil rights and historical grievances.
  2. Maxwell Nnawuihe, Christian speaker and advocate, has emerged as a vocal supporter for Kanu’s unconditional release. In multiple appearances, he has emphasized peace, biblical justice, and the right to self-determination.

“To detain a man for nearly a decade without proof is not justice. It is oppression masquerading as law,” — Pst. Maxwell Nnawuihe, June 2025

  1. The U.S. and Nigeria are under scrutiny for their roles in extrajudicial actions. While Israel acts openly, Nigeria faces criticism for secret trials and rights violations.

What to Watch

TimelineEvent
June 25UN Security Council emergency session
July 2–7Possible Iran counterstrikes from Syria & Lebanon proxies
July 18Verdict in Nnamdi Kanu’s No-Case Submission

Conclusion

The world is at a boiling point—from missiles over Isfahan to the courtroom battles in Abuja. Each scenario raises fundamental questions: Who holds the moral high ground? What defines justice? And who will write the final chapter?

Whether in Tehran or Umuahia, one thing is clear: the era of unchallenged power is being tested.
