KJV: Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God.

NIV: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ’I am the LORD your God.

NLT: “Say this to your people, the Israelites: I, the Lord, am your God.

KJV: After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

NIV: You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices.

NLT: So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life.

KJV: Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God.

NIV: You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the LORD your God.

NLT: You must obey all my regulations and be careful to keep my laws, for I, the Lord, am your God.

KJV: Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.

NIV: Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the LORD.

NLT: If you obey my laws and regulations, you will find life through them. I am the Lord.

KJV: None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

NIV: “’No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the LORD.

NLT: “You must never have sexual intercourse with a close relative, for I am the Lord.

NIV: “’Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.

NLT: Do not violate your father by having sexual intercourse with your mother. She is your mother; you must never have intercourse with her.

NLT: “Do not give any of your children as a sacrifice to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

KJV: Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

NIV: “’Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.

NLT: “Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin.

KJV: Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

NIV: “’Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.

NLT: “A man must never defile himself by having sexual intercourse with an animal, and a woman must never present herself to a male animal in order to have intercourse with it; this is a terrible perversion.

KJV: Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

NIV: “’Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.

NLT: “Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the people I am expelling from the Promised Land have defiled themselves.

KJV: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

NIV: Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.

NLT: As a result, the entire land has become defiled. That is why I am punishing the people who live there, and the land will soon vomit them out.

KJV: Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:

NIV: But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things,

NLT: You must strictly obey all of my laws and regulations, and you must not do any of these detestable things. This applies both to you who are Israelites by birth and to the foreigners living among you.

KJV: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;

NIV: for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled.

NLT: “All these detestable activities are practiced by the people of the land where I am taking you, and the land has become defiled.

KJV: That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

NIV: And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.

NLT: Do not give the land a reason to vomit you out for defiling it, as it will vomit out the people who live there now.

KJV: For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

NIV: “’Everyone who does any of these detestable things —such persons must be cut off from their people.

NLT: Whoever does any of these detestable things will be cut off from the community of Israel.

KJV: Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

NIV: Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the LORD your God.’”

NLT: So be careful to obey my laws, and do not practice any of these detestable activities. Do not defile yourselves by doing any of them, for I, the Lord, am your God.”
