Psalms 107:1-43

KJV: O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

WEB: Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

NLT: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.

KJV: Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

WEB: Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,

NLT: Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has saved you from your enemies.

KJV: And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

WEB: And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

NLT: For he has gathered the exiles from many lands, from east and west, from north and south.

KJV: They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

KJV: Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

KJV: And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

NLT: He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live.

KJV: Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

WEB: Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works to the children of men!

NLT: Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for all his wonderful deeds to them.

KJV: For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

WEB: For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good.

NLT: For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

KJV: Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

KJV: He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

WEB: He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves.

NLT: He spoke, and they were healed— snatched from the door of death.

KJV: And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

WEB: Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with singing.

NLT: Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about his glorious acts.

KJV: They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;

WEB: Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters;

NLT: Some went off in ships, plying the trade routes of the world.

KJV: These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.

WEB: These see Yahweh’s works, and his wonders in the deep.

NLT: They, too, observed the Lord’s power in action, his impressive works on the deepest seas.

KJV: For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.

WEB: For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.

NLT: He spoke, and the winds rose, stirring up the waves.

KJV: They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.

NLT: Their ships were tossed to the heavens and sank again to the depths; the sailors cringed in terror.

KJV: He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.

WEB: He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

NLT: He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.

KJV: Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

WEB: Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven.

NLT: What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!

KJV: Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

KJV: Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.

NLT: Let them exalt him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation.

KJV: He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

WEB: He turns rivers into a desert, water springs into a thirsty ground,

NLT: He changes rivers into deserts, and springs of water into dry land.

KJV: A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

WEB: and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

NLT: He turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands, because of the wickedness of those who live there.

KJV: He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.

WEB: He turns a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into water springs.

NLT: But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into flowing springs.

KJV: And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

WEB: There he makes the hungry live, that they may prepare a city to live in,

NLT: He brings the hungry to settle there and build their cities.

KJV: And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

WEB: sow fields, plant vineyards, and reap the fruits of increase.

NLT: They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest their bumper crops.

KJV: He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.

WEB: He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn’t allow their livestock to decrease.

NLT: How he blesses them! They raise large families there, and their herds of cattle increase.

KJV: Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

WEB: Again, they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.

NLT: When they decrease in number and become impoverished through oppression, trouble, and sorrow,

KJV: He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

WEB: He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.

NLT: the Lord pours contempt on their princes, causing them to wander in trackless wastelands.

KJV: Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.

WEB: Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction, and increases their families like a flock.

NLT: But he rescues the poor from their distress and increases their families like vast flocks of sheep.

KJV: The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

WEB: The upright will see it, and be glad. All the wicked will shut their mouths.

NLT: The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are stricken silent.

KJV: Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

WEB: Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of Yahweh.

NLT: Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord.
